Cupid crashed in Glasgow

I was in Glasgow today and came across Pink Bear Rebel’s latest addition to the Glasgow scene, this time he has surprised city dwellers in the west end with a model of a Cupid that has flown straight into a wall.  Usually known for his political statements with his artwork, such as the one with a blindfolded Theresa May being led by a blindfolded Bulldog, perhaps he is showing his feelings on the commercialism of Valentine’s Day.

While in town I took a trip down to SWG3 and spotted a piece by East London team EndofTheLine, who have been commissioned by Netflix to paint murals around the UK advertising a new show, one of the team is called Jim Vision so I thought it apt for me to post my image of his tag here.

Un-Connected

Now that Celtic Connections is over for another year, I can try and get back to normal again. I’ve really enjoyed my involvement in the festival, heard some great music, and met loads of interesting people along the way.

For my final week, I was involved in gigs at the Mitchell Theatre, The Old Fruitmarket and the O2 Academy, the bands performing were Smith & McClellan, Josie Duncan, Symbio, The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, Julietnorth, Karine Polwart and finally The Dead South supported by the Hooten Hollers and the Pretty Archie at the Academy, each of them were interesting and different in their own way.

I never got much chance to take photographs, but I really loved the imagery of the Old Fruitmarket when it was empty.

I’m off to Reykjavik later this week so I hope there will be plenty of photo oportunities.

The week gone by

I’ve been busy over the last week volunteering at Celtic Connections 2019 so I’ve not had a chance to get out and about taking photographs. This week, I was on duty at the CCA, for John Paul White supported by Lyla Foy, then it was the Mackintosh Church, for Iain MacFarlane & Ingrid Henderson (with special guests Hamish Napier and Finlay MacDonald) who were supported by Hecla, I met some great people and heard some fabulous music. The week was topped off by Grace & Danger: A Celebration of John Martyn in the Concert Hall, I had a great week and I’m looking forward to next week at the Mitchell Theatre and the O2 Academy.

On the way up to the Mackintosh Church, I was blethering with the driver and we got talking about street art as we were passing Firhill Stadium so I had to point out Rogue One’s nice mural on the outside wall of the city end of the stadium.  Due to the length of this piece I’ve split it into 2 panoramic shots.

Little Book Transfers

I was at a gig, for Celtic Connections with The Once, at one of my favourite haunts last night in Drygate Brewery, and as I went to put my coat away in the cloakroom I found this nice piece by Little Book Transfers.  The band were very good too.

I have found more of LBT’s work as I travel around Glasgow, as can be seen on the LBT page in the Artists section of this site.

SWG3 – Again

With not a lot to do today, I took a trip to SWG3 to see a new piece by Conzo and Glöbel I had heard about. While I was there I bumped into Mark Worst as he was getting started on a new large scale mural, from what I have seen it will be really good, I took a photograph of his preliminary work but I won’t post it until the work is completed. Mark told me that this new work is part of his new direction of portraiture murals for 2019, I look forward to seeing more of his work.

While I was there I also had the chance to have a chat with Garry Mackay aka Gaz Mac, the director of swg3, it was great to eventually meet up with the man who many say is Glasgow Graffiti’s Driving Force. We blethered about the development of art in Glasgow and this year’s forthcoming YardWorks which I’m hoping will not be on while I’m away travelling.

I took some other photographs whilst there, mainly of stuff that the lads were working on last week.  I’ll credit the images later.

Artist in DEV’elopment

I’ve been busy at the Tron Theatre, over the weekend volunteering at Celtic Connections 2019, I’ve had a great time and met some really nice and interesting people, and I’m looking forward to being involved in the rest of the festival.

Today I managed to get out and about a bit and had to take a trip to Paisley where I came upon two good Murals by Shaun Deveney, aka DEV on the walls of a Spar shop on Rowan Street. The one on the rear wall depicts Emily Coxhead, who runs a newspaper called The Happy Newspaper, which aims to celebrate all that’s good in the world.

Clearly visible, as you approach the shops, is a very good photorealistic mural depicting James Goodfellow, of Paisley, who patented the first ATM and created the first pin code and was awarded an OBE in 2006. It’s ironic that despite many of us using his invention daily basis, the 79-year-old said that he earned just around £10 from the patent, and has not made a penny more from it since.  There is a little video on Shain’s Facebook page about its creation.

I think that DEV will become more prominent as he develops his techniques, I have seen videos of his experiments and I think he is worthy of inclusion in The Artists section of the site.

New Section added

To try and make it easier to find photographs of street artists with a significant quantity of murals, I have created a new top-level section called The Artists.  I have added as much information on the artist as currently known by myself and a gallery of images.  I will add more information and Images as I receive them.

City Wander

An unexpected 10k wander around the city yesterday led me to different sources of artwork and some chats with good people. I haven’t created a map for this wander as it was totally unorganised and very random, you can follow my rambling and see the photographs here.

A walk in the park

With nothing to do in the city yesterday, I decided to keep the exercise regime going with a 10km walk in the park. Taking a stroll Eastwards from the Clarkston Road entrance to Linn Park, I took a long way round to take some photographs of the waterfall in full flow.

On my way around I spotted a glimpse of some colour on the opposite Western bank, so after crossing the Snuff Mill bridge I headed back towards the waterfall and managed to find a nice new work by EJEK and his Spanish pal, Che-Boxem, I was drawn towards the area by the sight of a couple of mushrooms painted on an old wall, I also got my waterfall photograph.
