Geelong Bollards

One of Geelong’s most interesting features for me was the figures standing along the shore. Over 100 huge painted wooden bollards salvaged from the piles and timbers of a pier demolished in the 1980’s and transformed by the artist Jan Mitchell, they have become icons of the city’s seafront.

I wish I had the time to photograph them all and discover the story behind them all, but I was informed that they chronicle the city’s past in a fun way, I managed to capture some who obviously represented characters who played a part on Geelong’s development, they are show below.
